First Annual BOOK of FREE Holiday Charity Challenge a Success with More Than $150,000 Donated to Local Charities
(SAN ANTONIO) Valero Energy Corporation and Nnovative Marketing Solutions presented a check for $150,531 to local charities during a special ceremony today. The funds were raised during the first annual BOOK of FREE Holiday Charity Challenge sponsored by Valero Corner Stores.
Judge Nelson Wolff and leaders from Valero Energy Corporation were on hand to present the check to charities like Boys & Girls Club, Haven for Hope, Morgan’s Wonderland, Returning Heroes Home and others. Several participating merchants such as Alamo Drafthouse, Rudy’s BBQ, Pizza Hut, Subway, Silo and Taco Bell were also in attendance.
“I’m thankful to our local businesses and consumers who helped make our first year a success and most importantly, make a difference in the lives of those who need it most in our community,” said Bob Wills, founder of Nnovative Marketing Solutions and the BOOK of FREE. “We look forward to working with the San Antonio community again to help raise additional funds for more charities and schools in our second year.”
The idea sparked much interest and conversation throughout the community and within social media outlets during the holiday season. Many took advantage of the opportunity to help out charities while getting a great deal and supporting local businesses. Even Judge Nelson and the Bexar County Commissioners Court recognized and supported the efforts of Valero Corner Stores and Nnovative Marketing Solutions with a ceremonial proclamation during the BOOK of FREE Holiday Charity Challenge.
The BOOK of FREE continues to sell online, but the Charity Challenge aspect ended on December 31, 2011.
